At least 43 killed as Hurricane Helene batters the southeastern U.S.

At least 43 people have lost their lives, and millions are without power following Hurricane Helene’s destructive path through the southeastern U.S. on Friday.

Rescue efforts are ongoing, with officials using boats, helicopters, and large vehicles to reach those trapped in the floodwaters, including around 50 workers and patients who sought refuge on the roof of a flooded hospital in Tennessee.

This was the most powerful storm ever recorded to strike Florida's Big Bend, moving northward into Georgia and the Carolinas after making landfall late Thursday night.
Insurance companies and financial experts estimate the storm's damage could reach billions of dollars.
