HRW: Israeli Airstrike Killing Journalists in Lebanon Likely a 'Deliberate Attack'
According to Human Rights Watch, the Israeli airstrike that resulted in the deaths of journalists in Lebanon was likely a "deliberate attack."
Human Rights Watch (HRW) has described the October 25, 2024, Israeli airstrike in southern Lebanon, which killed three journalists and injured four others, as a likely deliberate attack on civilians and a potential war crime.
In its statement, HRW revealed that the strike was carried out using a US-made Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) guidance kit. The NGO called on the US government to suspend arms transfers to Israel, citing repeated unlawful attacks on civilians and the possibility of US complicity in war crimes.
The attack targeted the Hasbaiyya Village Club Resort in the town of Hasbaiyya, where over a dozen journalists had been staying for weeks. HRW reported finding no evidence of combat, military forces, or activity in the area at the time.
