Relief and resilience in Lebanon as the ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah begins
A ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah came into effect at 4 a.m. local time in Lebanon (02:00 GMT), raising hopes for a permanent halt to Israeli attacks on Lebanese towns and cities and an end to over a year of conflict in southern Lebanon and northern Israel.
U.S. President Joe Biden announced that the agreement includes a 60-day timeline for Israeli forces to withdraw from Lebanon, with the Lebanese military assuming control of southern territories to prevent Hezbollah from reestablishing its presence.
