The architect of the ‘General’s Plan’ calls Israel’s war on Gaza a ‘complete failure.’
Former Israeli army general Giora Eiland has criticized Israel’s war on Gaza, stating that the country has failed in “three-and-a-half out of the four goals of the war,” in a sharp critique published on the Israeli news site Ynet.
“We have not destroyed Hamas’ military capabilities; we have not toppled Hamas’ rule; we are unable to ensure the safe return of residents to their homes in Israel; and as for the return of the hostages, the fourth goal – we have only partially succeeded,” he wrote this week.
In contrast, he asserted that Hamas has “achieved all of its objectives, with the primary one being the continuation of its rule in Gaza.”
Eiland had previously proposed a “surrender-or-starve” approach for the Israeli military, known as the “General’s Plan,” which advocated for designating northern Gaza as a closed military zone, cutting off humanitarian aid, and classifying anyone remaining as a “combatant.”
The plan was presented to Prime Minister Netanyahu’s government, though it has not confirmed whether any aspects were adopted. The Israeli military has denied implementing it.
